Shuffle Photo Order For Slideshow Mac

Sep 25, 2015  Yep, iPhoto had the shuffle feature, had it for quite a while. The Photos app on the iPad, iPhone, and AppleTV have the shuffle feature now, meaning that I can open an album in the cloud and play it as a random order slideshow on my little iPhone, my very old iPad, and my Apple TV.

Scenario: In iPhoto you have a folder full of photos that you want to turn into a slideshow – only you would want to play the images in random order. But: there is actually no ‘ preset‘ for “random order” or “shuffle mode” in the iPhoto preferences panel – and you ask yourself, if it is actually possible, to play an iPhoto slideshow in random order at all?!

This may first occur a bit strange, but it does actually make perfect sense. Let me explain: you probably don’t really want to have your images played in random order all the time. Instead the random play option is available on demand or actually on play – which means you can switch to random order (“shuffle order”) while the slideshow is actually playing.

Here is how: How to play an iPhoto slideshow in random order First you obviously have to have a slideshow you want to play in random order. So in the iPhoto sidebar under ‘slideshows’ you either right-click and choose “New Slideshow” or go to “File > New Slideshow” from to menu bar. Add some picture you want to play by draggin and dropping them from any of the image overviews. Then press ‘Play’. While the slideshow is playing, move the mouse pointer to make the slideshow controls appear.

Then click the settings button, that looks like a cog wheel icon, next to the close [X] button. IPhoto’s random order slideshow option “shuffle slide order” Ticking (Checking/unchecking) the option “ Shuffle slide order” will toggle the shuffle mode. You can find a detailed description on this page ““at support.apple.com – it’s written for iPhoto 9.5 but should also apply for iPhoto 9.6 and other versions as well.

MarkB824 Best Slideshow Shuffler app! When iOS 8 was released, Apple, for some reason, decided to remove the ability to shuffle photos during slideshow, and the feature has not returned since. This app gives you the shuffled slideshows back, and it does it beautifully! I love the extra customization we can get with the slideshows, such image backgrounds, a list of duration per slide (which are far better than the scrubber the stock photos app provides), the option to have the photos fill the screen.

This app is wonderful! The only thing I can suggest for this app, is the option to choose more than one album for the slideshow.

And being able to select individual photos like you're able to in the Photos app. A workround would be to create a new album and do it that way.

Other than that, excellent app! MarkB824 Best Slideshow Shuffler app! A great app that does exactly what the name says. You can once again shuffle your photos in a slideshow randomly.

I don't know why Apple thought it was a good idea to be able to play a slideshow without being able to play your photos in a random order in Photos. But they did. This app corrects that crucial omission. Also the developer of Random Slideshow is very responsive. I had a small issue with the app not being able to select the photo albums that I synced with my Mac, only albums I created on my iPhone. But after asking about it, it was fixed within a week in the next update.
