I have the above software installed on an old Macbook (osx 10.5.8). I recently purchased a new imac (mountain lion osx) but cannot install this software. I have three product keys, and in all these years have only used one. Those licenses are still valid for that software provided it is installed on systems for which it was designed. In all honesty the only options I know of for getting a free copy of Office 2011 are to (a) put it on your Christmas/Birthday gift list, or (b) steal it. • Compatibility is not a problem, especially if you keep in mind the requirement to work with the older version. • Perhaps some software developers work that way, but the overwhelming majority of commercial firms do not -- unless there is a front-loaded fee for perpetual licensing. You may want to consider other word processing software, such as the open source or even Apples Pages app for $20.
