Skype, the widely used voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) service, offers users several features that facilitate making telephone calls, initiating chat sessions and making video calls. These features include automatic log in and automatic launch upon computer startup – features both set by default upon installation of the program. Although automatic sign-in and automatic launch streamline the Skype experience, the program uses critical computer memory and can slow down other computer processes.

You can free up computer memory when not using Skype by disabling the automatic sign-in and automatic launch features.
